If you go north on the strip, a few blocks further north than Sahara, past the Stratosphere, you will come to Charleston Blvd. if you head west down Charleston you will find a stark contrast to the Las Vegas you will be used to.. You are partially downtown, so keep your wits about you. Charleston Blvd is a real eye opener, and has quite a few hidden gems.. It is scattered with tiny independent restaurants of various nationalities, El Salvador, Cuban, Korean, even a gourmet ala carte American restaurant partially hidden in what is now considered the Arts district. There are several galleries and workshops open to the public most days in the week, offering something for almost all tastes.. Just before you get as far west as Main Street, you will stumble upon Johnny Toccos ringside gym, one of the more historic places of interest in Las Vegas.. This is the oldest running boxing gym in town and has played host to a virtual who's who of boxing. From Mike Tyson to Sonny Liston, this place is a must see on a visit in this locale.. Charleston Blvd then heads on into greater Las Vegas, it's worth a bus trip just to check out the local swap meets and eating joints.. It's a great way to get away from the hustle of the strip..
